I like this set as it is compact and the knives cut well, already cut my finger. I was looking for a set that didn't have steak knives because I already have them. I like the stainless steel and the block color. Scissors seem a litte bit "cheap" but they work.

Okay so i recieve my knives...very quick actually and im all excited with them and when i open the last one i cut myself!..So be careful, eventhough they are pretty well wrapped, they are very sharp!. They look beautiful, scissors are a little cheap but they do the job.
The bad thing: eventhough they say they are DISHWASHER SAFE...one of them already has rust marks so i will not recommend you to leave em there for a wash, just hand wash them.
Overall not a bad product for the money.

Many associate Ginsu knives with the product’s kitschy infomercial from the ‘70s that begins with a karate kick to a watermelon and proceeds with a demo of these knives cutting through just about anything in the house. Like the original product, Ginsu’s International Traditions is designed for the home cook who is not attuned to the maintenance required of a more high-end knife. However, this line is an improvement on the original, offering the weight, balance, and style of a commercial-quality knife, while meeting current design trends and performance expectations.

This set provides a 5-inch fork--which holds a pork loin or rump roast still--and a 7-1/2-inch slicer for carving. Both fork head and blade are constructed from stainless steel and, although they do not have full tangs, are instead encased in a strip of bakelite, which is sandwiched within a brushed stainless-steel handle. The steel handle provides some of the weight of the missing tang and a sleek, modern style. The slicer features a two-dimensional serrated edge that is symmetrically-cut on either side for more accurate slicing and for either right- or left-handed use. The edge is still as low-maintenance as ever and never requires sharpening. I love the Ginsu Knife, its very sharp, and can cut thou almost anything! I have not had a chance to use this product yet, however, my expectations are very high in usability.

The knife and fork are very heavy, and a "fluid" shape :O)

Update, I have given this product a few chances. The knife is totally awesome as all Ginsu knifes are, but the fork is kindof "weird" at first I was extremly happy it was so sleek looking, but to actually carve something with it, there is a huge risk of slipping because there is no "finger" guard. So I use a previous "carving fork" and I use this fork to serve at the formal table. after everything is carved.

Otherwise I have been using my Ginsu since I recieved back in 2009 and its still extremly sharp, cuts thou any "tough" product and can slice a tomatoe with out brusing it or mutalating :O)

Product came new as ordered. Nice compliment to my other Ginsu set that I bought in a store. The knives of the set work great and have a nice weight to them. I only gave a 4 because I have not compared them to very expensive knives which I probably would never buy anyway. The Ginsu knife set and carving set are beautiful stainless steel. Do they rust? I don't know I don't put them in my diswasher I hand wash them. The dishwasher recks havoc on all dishes in my opinion and I only use it for glassware, plates, and common utensils not my good stuff or things I want to protect for a long time.

I recommend this set and the knife set if you come across them.

Hey what you expect for $12.99. Sure it's not up there with German-made cutlery, but then again it's not in the same price category. I am not a professional chef so I don't care if it has the cachet of a high price set. All I want is functionality.

I got this knife set a couple months ago and I haven't had any problems with it. I've always had knives handed down to me, so this was perfect for a first time starter set. The colors look great on my counter and the knives are super sharp. When I bought them, I didn't realize that all the knives in the set are serrated (except for the extra one that comes with it) so I was a little skeptical about how well they would work, but they work really well. I read the reviews that said they would rust easily, but I haven't had a problem with them. Great knife set for a great price

Have you ever bought knifes and realize that they don't cut or they go dull. Well if you cook as much as me and your knifes are a MUST these knifes are for you! I have never had such an awesome pair of sharp knifes as these. They cut through thick beef,chicken and fish like a warm butter knife on butter. I HIGHLY recommend these knifes for the everyday home cook. One more thing, don't leave your knifes on water or they will rust let them dry and put them back on the wooden knife holder please. Take care of your knifes and they will take care of you when you need them the most.

The knives are attractive and sharp with a substantial feeling in terms of weight. We have noticed a couple of spots on one of them that look like rust. It won't wash off or wipe off. If you have never used this knife before you will be amazed!

I owned on prior but during a divorce my ex hid the knifes the day I moved out, knowing they were my favored item in the kitchen. These knifes are now replaced. they are perfect and once you get a handle on the capabilities of this knife the possibilities are endless! For me it makes my kitchen feel more like home.

They are not weird to hold, they are extremly sharp and they have a fliud shape to them this is a way awesome product! They are very comparable to the Cutco brand!

These are sharp. They are knives. They are heavy and gleam impressively. They will work.

Yes, your pretentious friends will give you crap and ask you if you sit around all day slicing cans open and practicing your karate moves. Thy will ask if they can borrow your Slap Chop. They are just jealous of your stylin' ninja moves- and that they spent several hundred dollars towards the same end. You both have knives to cut stuff up and to hang out on your countertop, gleaming like they mean business.

I never realized how dull my past knives have been, until I started unwrapping these. The first thing I cut with my new knives: myself. I don't hold that against them (or anything else that I want to keep attached to myself, for that matter.) For the record, the Santoku was the culprit. These things come in cardboard sheaths wrapped in plastic, and while I was sliding it out of the cardboard, it split the sheath and slit my fingers. We're not just talking about a scratch- I had to apply pressure, elevate, and bandage. Whoops.

So um, be careful. Sorry if that makes me sound like your mom.

All the knives in this set are serrated, except for the Santoku and the cleaver: these two knives also do not have a handy dandy spot in the knife block. That's okay, they adorn my magnetic knife strip with grace and style. The stainless utensils- eh. Let's face it, they're just window dressing, for the most part.

I haven't used the cleaver yet- the santoku has chopped the heck out of some cilantro, the bread knife whizzed through an artisan loaf with a hard crust, the steak knives whistle through your carnivorous entrees with ease, and the paring knife eviscerated an unripe pear practically by itself.

Love my new Ginsus- I am probably going to get the bonus steak knives, carving set, so my cleaver and Santoku won't be so lonely on the knife strip- I pitched my other knives.

We bought this a few months ago as a replacement for a cutlery set that was showing its age. I was hesitant at first because it seemed like an awful lot for the price. However, I read some of the other reviews and decided to try them out. I'm glad I did. These knives are very good and very stylish. Honestly I'm not entirely sure what each one is for and I haven't used each one yet. There's one non-serrated knife that comes to a point which makes quick work of splitting an avocado. The set of steak knives is excellent.

This is a awesome knife set. These knives are as sharp, i would not expect anything less of ginsus. The knives are pretty average when it comes to the handle comfort, lighter then most knives and pretty durable. All in all these are ginsu knives so they are sharp and have stayed sharp. I would recommend these knives for everyday use.

I've had this set since August, 2009, and in the ten months since this writing, one blade has loosened from the handle and minor spotting/discoloration are on all the knives. Overall, they're pretty good and I don't regret buying them. But, I still expected less problems. One friend suggested to wash them by hand because certain dishwashers can be abusive with some things. That may be what I do from now on, after I replace the one that's loose.

This 18-piece set packs an excellent selection of knives in a contemporary black hardwood storage block and throws in four serving utensils as a bonus. The cutlery includes: an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch slicer, an 8-inch bread knife, a 5-inch boning knife, a 4-1/2-inch utility knife, a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, and six 4-1/2-inch steak knives, plus a pair of shears. Blades are constructed from stainless steel and feature a two-dimensional serrated edge that is symmetrically-cut on either side for more accurate slicing and for either right- or left-handed use. Edges are still as low-maintenance as ever and never require sharpening. The blades do not have full tangs but are instead encased in a strip of bakelite, which is sandwiched within a brushed stainless-steel handle. The steel handle provides some of the weight of the missing tang and a sleek, modern style. The four additional serving pieces in this set are also stainless-steel and include a fork, slotted spoon, solid spoon, and spatula.
