I came across these knives as I was hunting for another brand, so it was not like I was hunting for Ginsu on purpose. At first, I didn't even take it seriously. The memory of their silly infomercials has been burned in my brain for years, I considered this brand a cultural joke of sorts. After reading other reviews on this particular line, I actually started to really think about it.

Okay, what the heck, I picked this up on a warehouse deal. If it is really terrible, I can send it back. They just came in, and I cannot believe it. What really nice knives!! They have a pretty decent heft to them, too. They weren't super-super sharp right out of the box, but one of them was---OUCH! Shoulda been more careful. But they were sharp enough.
The set consists of a 3.5-inch paring knife, a 5-inch utility knife, a 5-inch Santoku, and a 6-inch chef's knife. Nothing is serrated.

The knife block is solid and sturdy. It has the Ginsu name printed on one side only, so you can turn it to the wall if you don't want no one to see that.

I still ordered the Global that I was after originally, but these will make a very useful addition. I almost didn't buy them 'cause I couldn't get past the Ginsu thing. Now, however, I think I'm going back for a set of steak knives. Truly, these are not cheesy knives.

So, if these things do not hold up, I will be back to revise this. Right now, I'm at the "very impressed" stage and I feel optimistic.
I wonder if these things actually will cut through a soda can? Not that I'm going to try it, just wondering . . .

look at the edge of the blade, it is flat. it should be slightly curved to facilitate chopping otherwise you can't rock the blade and get a thorough cut. also, when you put the blade on a flat surface you can see light coming through where it contacts the surface. these areas along the edge are not cutting all the way through; i discovered this trying to rock-chop celery and noticed the pieces were still stuck together by their fibers. the handle fit and material is ultra cheap in appearance and feel. the knife is extremely light and they tout this made-in-china knife as japanese steel which i doubt. it may be suitable for push or pull slicing of certain items, but would have trouble dicing and certainly mincing.
the price is perfectly reflective of this knife.

Many associate Ginsu knives with the product’s kitschy infomercial from the ‘70s that begins with a karate kick to a watermelon and proceeds with a demo of these knives cutting through just about anything in the house. Like the original product, Ginsu’s International Traditions is designed for the home cook who is not attuned to the maintenance required of a more high-end knife. However, this line is an improvement on the original, offering the weight, balance, and style of a commercial-quality knife, while meeting current design trends and performance expectations.

This set provides a 5-inch fork--which holds a pork loin or rump roast still--and a 7-1/2-inch slicer for carving. Both fork head and blade are constructed from stainless steel and have full tangs that extend through lightweight bakelite handles and are triple riveted for strength. The slicer features a two-dimensional serrated edge that is symmetrically-cut on either side for more accurate slicing and for either right- or left-handed use. The edge is still as low-maintenance as ever and never requires sharpening. I have a wusthhof classic knife set [forged high quality knives $300]. i was looking for cheap carving set to complement the set and fill the empty slots in the block.
These ginsu knives are the perfect match. It is hard to tell the wusthof handles from these ginsu knives. The triple rivels and handle color and design are right on.
Although blades are not made of forged hi carbon steel[ it's stainless steel], the knife the and fork are able to dissect the occasional turkey/roast.

The knife is a wonderful product and is perfect for chopping vegetables. I don't like the cutting board though because it warps after it has been washed several times.
